Welcome to Post op Doula
About
WHAT?
I bridge the gap between surgery and recovery, offering support when follow-up care is limited or unavailable.
Surgeons often don’t conduct follow-up appointments for weeks after surgery, leaving many questions unanswered. During this time, it’s common to feel uncertain or overwhelmed. I offer guidance to help create a comfortable, efficient home environment that promotes healing, so you can transition smoothly after your procedure.
I’m here to provide reliable information, address your concerns, offer strategies to manage mobility challenges at home, and help ensure the best possible recovery.
WHY?
I recognized a clear need for support services for anyone undergoing surgery. Many people feel lost and overwhelmed during recovery, and could benefit from someone experienced to advocate for them.
Even those with loved ones by their side often feel alone when their support person isn’t sure how to help
Physical pain is often emotional pain, too.
Post-op doula care can make a meaningful difference throughout recovery. I’ve witnessed it firsthand- surgery can be daunting, but you don’t have to face it alone.
Imagine having someone knowledgeable by your side, or just a call away.
HOW?
Reach out and we can schedule a 15’ phone call to see if Post op Doula is the right fit for you.
I am based out of north county San Diego. If you live elsewhere and still prefer home visits we can discuss travel outside of this area.
Video and phone appointments also available.
Testimonials
- Sandra has the most gentle loving touch. She has an incredible way of giving you confidence to trust your body and its healing process. She has such a gift of explaining your physiological process combined with motherly care that makes you feel at ease healing in your own home. She gives you tools and provides comfort that make you feel so comforted and safe. She rescued me and my daughter from fears of what was happening and gave us peace of mind to know how to care for her most comfortably in our home. She came in as the most valuable asset in the most vulnerable part of the surgery process.

-In the very beginning, the recovery process was extremely difficult and a little bit scary, especially since I got released by the hospital in only a few days. I went home feeling unprepared, and just uncomfortable in general. I’ll definitely say having Sandra was very mentally alleviating and de-stressing. Just having her to talk to and bring some supplies helped me so much and looking back I honestly can’t imagine what I would have done without her. She was so sweet and knowledgeable, and made the entire experience so much more comfortable for myself, as well as the rest of my family. Now I am doing so well and I am truly so grateful to have had such an amazing support system.
Isla S.- Encinitas CA// 16 y.o. post multilevel spinal fusion
-Over the last few years, I experienced two separate accidents where I had significant fractures requiring surgery. The first time, I broke my hand, and the second time, I broke my leg. Both times, once I was home recovering, I experienced a level of pain that shocked me and impacted my ability to sleep or eat. I was scared, overwhelmed, and uncertain about what to expect or how to navigate my recovery. During those early days between surgery and when physical therapy began, Sandra was an invaluable support to me. I had many questions about what was “normal” and when to call the doctor. After surgery for my leg, I was sent home with orders not to bear any weight on my leg for 6 weeks, but with no support for how to get in or around my house, how to get in and out of bed, or how to take care of my basic needs. Sandra was there for me in the hours, days, and weeks after surgery, providing expert care and tips on navigating it all. She was soothing, attentive, and empowering. She also helped me learn how to maintain strength and mobility in my body as I waited for physical therapy to begin, which accelerated my healing journey significantly. Thanks to Sandra’s expert support, I got back to walking and my life much sooner than expected. She is the first person I recommend to anyone who has had surgery or significant injury and needs help in those vulnerable hours days after returning home.
